BUT Formazza: Registrations open on February 7th!!
4 February 2025You really couldn’t ask for anything better from this edition of BUT Formazza: 825 total participants, an ideal day for running and enjoying the majestic alpine scenery of the Alta Val Formazza, in northern Piedmont, made even more fascinating by the lots of snow present: the tracks they have become even harder than but certainly even more spectacular.
Bettelmatt Ultra Trail: Poggi and Boggio win
As widely announced, the snow forced the Formazza Event organizers to modify the Bettelmatt Ultra Trail and Bettelmatt Super Race routes, the two longest races, for safety reasons.
However, in both races, the highest point of the route was reached, the legendary Rifugio 3A, at almost 3,000 m above sea level. The longest race, Bettelmatt Ultra Trail, approximately 53 km for approximately 3,165 m D+, was won by the Ligurian Nicola Poggi (Sisport SSD), who won with a time of 6h34’03”; second position for Fabio Rolando in 6h59’15” while third position went to Maichol Capelli in 7h09’03”. After a rather competitive first part of the race, Poggi decidedly pulled ahead in the second part of the route, then presented himself triumphantly in Valdo Formazza, the starting and finishing point of all the races.
However, Chiara Boggio (Durbano Gas Energy Rivarolo 77) had no rivals; the Piedmontese athlete, one of the favorites on the eve, did not betray expectations by winning in 7h58’31”, clearly separating her opponents: the second, the home athlete Claudia Cartini (Atletica AVIS Ossolana), in fact arrived far behind her time was over an hour, 8h59’10”, while the third, Marta Ripamonti (ASD Le Volpi d’Invò) crossed the finish line after 9h54’31”.
There were 113 people registered for this race.
Bettelmatt Super Race, victories for Dellavesa and Locatelli
Paolo Dellavesa won the Bettelmatt Super Race, 40 km for 2,487 m D+, with a time of 4h50’17”. The athlete from Novara, who considers BUT Formazza as “his” race, has always been in the top positions and won at the end of a vigorous race. Second position ex aequo for Stefano Piana (Sport Project VCO) and Jacopo Colombo (ASD Run Fast).
Among the women, victory for Sara Locatelli, another athlete from Ossola, who finished in 6h07’55”, ahead of Veronica Depaulis (Atletica Valsesia), second in 6h29’51”, and Monica Moia (ASD Bognanco) who finished in 6h53′ 17″.
178 registered at this distance.
Bettelmatt Race, Giacomotti and Regis win and convince
He is now the “King” of Formazza: Roberto Giacomotti (Sport Project VCO) is at his third victory: last year he won the BSR, this year he dominated the Bettelmatt Race, 22 km for 1,320 m D+, concluding his effort in 2h09’59”.
Second came Thomas Floriani (Sport Project VCO), who performed excellently on his trail debut, finishing with a time of 2h13’59”; third position for Filippo Crippa (Pergarun ASD) in 2h17’51”.
In the women’s field, Chiara Regis got the better of a tenacious Veronica Riccio who challenged her for victory until the end: 2h56’37 was the time of the winner, who is returning to her levels after an injury, I count 2h57’49” from Riccio. Martina Rigoli third in 3h01’32”.
Bettelmatt Race had 454 participants: it was a real spectacle to see the athletes at the start and the colorful snake climbing the first sections of the climb!
Bettelmatt Mini Trail
84 registered for the shortest race, the 6 m and 250 m D+ BMT, won by Stefano Bellantonio (Caddese) in 33’18”, while in the women’s field Arianna and Fabiana Matli finished first in 39’46”. Also worth mentioning are the winners of the Under 12 category: Leonardo Potè among the boys and Gaia Cerini among the girls.
Thus goes to the archives a truly memorable edition of BUT Formazza, which saw the participation of athletes from 13 nations and 13 Italian regions: unanimous appreciation for the routes, truly very scenic, but also for the organization, which was able manage the modification of routes well.
