BUT Formazza: Registration Opens on February 19!

Here comes BUT Warm Up!
2 July 2026Anticipation is growing for the 2026 edition of BUT Formazza, the trail running event scheduled for July 11, 2026, amid the majestic alpine scenery of Alta Val Formazza, in northern Piedmont, set against the stunning backdrop of the Lepontine Alps.
Nearly 400 Registered Participants Already, with Athletes from Across Italy and 12 Countries
A remarkable number of runners have already signed up for the event organized by Formazza Event ASD, confirming the growing appreciation for a race that takes place in an exceptionally scenic environment. This year, the event will be even more closely connected to Walser culture, highlighting the heritage of the people who played a fundamental role in the development and history of the Central Alps.
Athletes from 12 countries have already registered: Italy, Algeria, Belgium, Croatia, Great Britain, Greece, the Netherlands, Peru, Romania, Switzerland, Hungary, and the United States.
Ten Italian regions are currently represented: Piedmont, Abruzzo, Emilia-Romagna, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Lazio, Liguria, Lombardy, Marche, Trentino-Alto Adige, and Veneto.
The Classic Race Courses Return
- Bettelmatt Walser Ultra: approximately 57 km with 3,436 m of elevation gain and loss, passing through spectacular locations such as Rifugio 3A (nearly 3,000 m above sea level), and the lakes Vannino, Morasco, Sabbione, Toggia, and Castel.
- Bettelmatt Walser Marathon: approximately 44 km with 2,745 m of elevation gain and loss, following the first section of the Ultra course up to Rifugio 3A.
- Bettelmatt Walser Race: 24 km with 1,320 m of elevation gain and loss, crossing Passo Nefelgiù and passing the famous Toce Waterfall.
- Bettelmatt Walser Mini: 6 km with approximately 200 m of elevation gain, designed for younger participants and those looking for a less demanding challenge.
Whatever distance participants choose, they will experience the same unforgettable “High-Altitude Emotions” that only BUT Formazza can deliver.

BUT Warmup Makes Its Debut
This year brings an exciting new addition. On July 3, the inaugural BUT Warmup will take place, organized by Formazza Event in partnership with the Italian Red Cross – Domodossola Committee and the Formazza local unit.
The event features an enjoyable 8 km course along the roads of the Formazza plain and will serve as an excellent test not only for the athletes but also for organizers and volunteers ahead of the main event on July 11.
