Riccardo Montani: an unforgettable arrival
26 February 2019
BUT Formazza, still a few days for the discounted rates!
19 March 2019What would BUT Formazza be without volunteers? It simply wouldn’t exist!
The role of volunteers is in fact essential for organizing an event as complex as BUT Formazza: whether they are at the refreshment points or on the course, at the bib collection or in the finish area, there are truly many volunteers, over 100, who work so that the athletes can truly experience the “Emotions at High Altitude” promises. After all, the ASD that organizes it, Formazza Event, is also made up of volunteers.
One of the best known and most appreciated among the long-term volunteers is he, Antonio Pella, for all “Il Pella”! Antonio is appreciated by all for his sympathy, for his availability and for his … photographic skills of him!
Antonio, what do you do within the organization?
I’m in charge of the layout together with Giorgio Sciligo; we place the flags, we mark the route in order to minimize the possibility of making mistakes and, from this year, where possible, we will also put the word “BUT”, obviously with ecological paint!
How long have you been collaborating with Formazza Event?
It’s been 10 years now! I’ve watched the race grow into the spectacular event it is now: lots of effort, but also lots of fun!
What do you like most about being a volunteer at BUT Formazza?
The fact of being around “my” mountains: whenever I can I like to go on long excursions and every time I get excited by the beauty of our territory; thanks to BUT Formazza! I can live my passion even more intensely! Then over time a rather close-knit group of volunteers has formed, so there is also the possibility of having fun together.
Where will you wait for the athletes this year?
I’ll be with the boys in charge of the route in the Passo S.Giacomo – Capanna Corno stretch; we’ll be in the area the night before and, weather permitting, we’ll while away the wait with a nice barbecue in good company! Early in the morning we will then go to their respective stations to wait for all the athletes, support them and cheer for them, from the first to the last!
Thanks to Antonio and all the volunteers!
