13 July 2025News and Confirmations for the Race That Delivers High-Altitude Emotions
Registration for the 2026 edition of BUT Formazza will open on Thursday, February 19. The trail race is scheduled for July 11, 2026, set against the majestic Alpine scenery of Alta Val Formazza in northern Piedmont, within the stunning Lepontine Alps.
The 2025 routes are confirmed, with updated logo and race names inspired by the Walser heritage!
The goal of the organizers, Formazza Event, is to further establish BUT Formazza as an event that truly enhances and celebrates its territory. For this reason, starting this year, the races will include “Walser” in their names, highlighting the deep connection with the people who profoundly shaped the development and history of the Central Alps.
From a technical standpoint, the much-appreciated course features remain unchanged. All races will start and finish in Valdo – Formazza, at approximately 1,200 meters above sea level, in the Formazza Municipality festival area.
The courses will be as follows:
-
Bettelmatt Walser Ultra: approximately 57 km with 3,436 m elevation gain and loss, reaching spectacular locations such as Rifugio 3A (almost 3,000 m), and the lakes Vannino, Morasco, Sabbione, Toggia, and Castel.
-
Bettelmatt Walser Marathon: approximately 44 km with 2,745 m elevation gain and loss, covering the first part of the ultra course up to Rifugio 3A.
-
Bettelmatt Walser Race: 24 km with 1,320 m elevation gain and loss, crossing Passo Nefelgiù and the Toce Waterfall.
-
Bettelmatt Walser Mini: 6 km with approximately 200 m elevation gain, designed for younger participants and those less experienced.
No matter the distance chosen, the experience will always be one of “High-Altitude Emotions” that only BUT can deliver!
