Her smile is contagious, sweetness is her strength: it’s Michela Urh, winner of BUT 2017.
Last year Insubria Sky Team athlete was protagonist in many races.
She explains: I’m not very up-to-date on the list of competitions because of work, running, teen management, and
hairy friend – she smiles – and I’m not talking about Massi (her husband, ed), I manage all a bit ‘messed up’, however, obviously not in chronological order, in 2017 I won the Trail of the Boar in Tuscany, Trail of the Moscato, I was 3^ at the Trail del Soglio, and 2^ at the Tuscany Crossing: in 2018 I’ll run the 100 km!.
I started the 2018 with the Ronda Ghibellina, in Tuscany too, with a good third place; I started in pain and then I stopped for three weeks …
Third in 2016, first in 2017: running in Val Formazza takes you well!
Let’s say I’m lucky too! However, I knew the course very well because I’m from Domodossola and I train all summer on those mountains, so maybe I was also a bit advantaged… And then everything went ok! As always it takes a mix of combinations to have a simply perfect day.
What was the best moment of your victory last year?
A beautiful moment that filled my eyes with joy was the dawn, I would say magical, while I was crossing Passo Busin. I would add another moment: it will be taken for granted, but when before facing the last descent, I saw Riale’s plain from above, feel the warmth of the fans and the voice of the speaker… well, after all these hours of running you feel the happiest person in the world. Really amazing!
Why do you think it’s nice to come and run in Val Formazza?
The view you can get from the highest points of the valley is priceless, if you then live those territories in complete solitude as often happens in such a long race, then they become really magical!
